Friends is one of Pedroncelli's most successful red wines with a great value for money. The originally Catalan winemaker Montse Reece selects beautiful batches of merlot, zinfandel and syrah grapes from winegrowers friends throughout Sonoma County. These ferment in Pedroncelli's cellar and then mature for ten to eleven months in small American oak casks, 30% of which are renewed annually. This gives the wine more complexity, but certainly does not have an overdose of wood. It tastes wonderfully smooth and has a slight spiciness. Sonoma is twice the size of the more famous Napa Valley, but produces only half in quantity. Winemakers in Sonoma, such as Pedroncelli, are less starry than the large and more commercial winemakers in Napa Valley. The aim is for the entire county to be 100% sustainable in terms of viticulture from 2019 onwards. Due to the limited availability of good and affordable Californian wines, it is a great achievement for Pedroncelli to be able to offer such a good wine for this price.
