Nerello cappuccio meets Nerello mascalese
Bright red in colour and spicy fresh and fruity in aroma, with nuances of red berries and herbs. The taste is smooth and elegant and develops aromatically, with fresh tannins in the aftertaste.
DOC Rosso from Etna
The Bourgogne of the Mediterranean, that is how owner Marco de Grazia characterizes his refined, minerally Sicilian wines, originating from slope vineyards on the northern flank of the volcano Etna. The altitude provides cooling and therefore refinement in the wines. The organic planting and the ambition to make top quality force Marco to low yields so that the indigenous grapes have a beautiful expression.
The vineyard Calderara Sottana is planted with nerello mascalese and nerello cappuccio and has a low production due to the old age of the vines. The large amount of basalt pebbles in the soil is special. They retain the heat well at night, which means the grapes contain less acid and the wine is therefore round and accessible in taste.
After fermentation, the wine matures for almost 18 months in oak barrels. Drink this magnificent wine with a nice piece of red meat, preferably after a few years of bottle maturation. Sublime!
