Description Bodega Tesalia
If there is anything that the Englishman Richard Golding has learned in his long career as a marketing chief executive, it is that nothing is impossible. So he decided to pursue his dream and start a wine estate. It would of course be all too easy to walk the beaten track and choose an established wine region. Richard fell in love with a beautiful estate in the Andalusian province of Cádiz, near the historic town of Arcos de la Frontera. He bought it in 2008 and made it his highly personal mission to put Andalusia on the international red wine list.
Tesalia has no less than 106 hectares. Part of this is devoted to wine, but horses are also bred and truffles are grown. The vineyards (now about 11 hectares) are planted on the rolling hills at the foot of the Sierra de Grazalema. The proximity of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean and the northern exposition of the slopes ensure sufficient coolness. The soil consists of clay on a lime layer, and is quite poor - just right for the local tintilla de rota and the international petit verdot, cabernet and syrah. Thanks to the warm, long, dry ripening season, these blue grapes can also ripen perfectly here.
Not only the natural, but also the human factors are top notch at Tesalia. What Richard also learned during his impressive career is that you always have to surround yourself with the best people. That is why he put together a team of specialists. His daughter Natalia is a graduate oenologist, as well as the winemaker, Ignacio de Miguel. José Ramón Lissarrague is an agricultural engineer and finally our own Dutch Master of Wine Cees van Casteren is involved in the domain as a consultant. With united forces, this star team has built a state of the art wine estate that has everything for the production of grand cru-level Andalusia.
The Tintilla de rota grape is the Mourvedre grape
Tasting note
Powerful red wine with a full red color and an intense aroma of preserved red fruit and spicy nuances. The taste is full and soft to the touch and ends well balanced with mild tannin in the aftertaste.
