The 2015 Monte Bello is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 7% Cabernet Franc and only 5% of the Merlot Given the higher Cabernet percentage, the wine is more 'challenging' (Parker talks about Wulps) and layered than the 2012 vintage and has the one has a great concentration and depth in the mouth with the classic tones of berry, vanilla and violets. In the glass, this Monte Bello shows an opaque purple color with beautiful elegant notes of black currants, minerals and smoky oak-scented nose. The wine is medium to full-bodied and just as definitely requires another 5-6 years of bottle aging. No blockbuster, but more elegant and with finesse. No one will expect that this is a wine from California but more a top bordeaux. The wine will continue to improve over the years and this great Ridge topper has a drinking window of at least 30 years, so an absolute collector item for the refined wine collection.
