Chenin Blanco
Chenin Blanc (Loire, South Africa, California, Australia, NZ, South America).
In the Loire, dry, semi-dry, sweet and sparkling wines of Chenin Blanc are made. The sweet versions have an extremely long storage potential. Cheap dry varieties have something vegetal and hard, lean acids. Characteristic is the high acidity, which is masked by lush fruit in quality specimens.
Recognizable aromas : citrus (lemon, lime) green fruit (apple, (un)ripe pear, quince; exotic fruit (peach, nectarine); blossom (blossoms, honey) Sweet versions: exotic fruits (apricot, peach, nectarine); dried fruit (dried apricot, fruit jam); spices (cinnamon, nutmeg); blossom (honey); roasted (almond, hazelnut) From warmer regions: exotic fruits (pineapple, melon, mango, peach) often in combination with wood (vanilla ); roasted (toast, coffee, caramel).
