The wines from the northern Rhône (Condrieu) yield the most complex ones. Further south you will find Viognier in the southern Rhône as a mixed grape and as a cépage in the Languedoc. Characteristic is the perfume-like aroma combined with a luscious mouthfeel, often somewhat firm in alcohol and low acidity.
Recognizable aromas: exotic fruit (apricot, pineapple, mango, peach); green fruit (pear); ctirus (lemon, orange); dried fruit (dried apricot) blossom (honey), floral (perfume); blossom (blossoms, honey); roasted (nuts, almond); spices (cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg); wood (vanilla, oak).
