Tasting Note Cour des Dames Malbec
Deep red southern French wine from pure malbec. Seductive and fruity in character with aromas of blackberries and vanilla from the oak. Delicious glass to drink as is, but also great with the barbecue or spicy snacks.
Description
Malbec is extremely popular today. The grape owes this mainly to Argentina, where it is the national pride. Originally, however, malbec is very French. Its home ports are Bordeaux, Cahors and the Loire, but winemaker Hilde Chevillot of Cour des Dames shows that you can also make delicious red wine in the southern French Languedoc.
This malbec is a beautiful composition of grapes from two different vineyards. The first is characterized by a shallow bottom that heats up quickly due to the presence of 'galets'. These flat, round stones store heat during the day and release it at night. Here the grapes ripen easily, giving the wine a certain sultry. The second vineyard, on the other hand, has a deeper soil and plantations of about thirty-year-old vines. The concentrated fruit of this place provides more layering and concentration in the wine. After the grapes have been harvested by hand, fermentation follows in stainless steel tanks. A small part of the wine then matures in new oak barrels.
With its supple fruit, a touch of spiciness and a full, seductive taste, the Cour des Dames Malbec is a very versatile wine. Supple enough to drink as it is, but also suitable for various snacks, pizza, pasta or meat dishes. Don't serve it too hot, ideally 16°C.
