Magnums, double magnums and much larger. We have always been a big fan of it. Why? Because it's just cool! Large bottles of wine give a very different atmosphere at the table or at a party. It always attracts attention and everyone wants to hold the bottle.
Are magnums only for the atmosphere? Certainly not. The development of wine and the aging process is triggered by oxygen. A bottle of wine is sealed off from oxygen by the cork, you would say. Not entirely so. The cork lets through minute quantities of oxygen through which the wine can develop. The larger the bottle of wine, the smaller this effect and therefore a magnum longer and better elderly than a normal bottle of wine.
Still back to the first paragraph. Because even though a magnum or jeroboam might look a bit impressive, it is only 2 or 4 bottles in the end. Are you sure that a box of wine is drunk? Then you can go great with large bottles. And then you impress too!
