Châteauneuf du Pape
This beautiful white wine from our organic domain Le Clos du Caillou is a real mini-Châteauneuf. With its ripe fruit, refined floral notes, minerality and full body, it is an excellent wine for richer dishes such as lobster or a creamy ragout. It can also easily ripen for several years.
Domaine Clos d Caillou
Actually, Côtes du Rhône is pre-eminently an appellation for red wine. In fact, less than 4% of the Côtes du Rhône is white! That is almost unimaginable when you taste the quality of this La Réserve. It is not for nothing that we affectionately call her our mini-Chateauneuf.
This white Côtes du Rhône is made from typical white Rhône grapes. The blend consists mainly of clairette, supplemented with a small percentage of grenache blanc. The grapes come from about 50 year old sticks. This gives the wine more concentration and complexity.
The grapes are harvested by hand and sorted twice: first in the vineyard, then again on the domain. After pressing, the must ferments partly in new oak barrels, partly in steel tanks. The aging also takes place in both wooden barrels and steel tanks. This ensures a nice balance between roundness and structure on the one hand and freshness and fruitiness on the other.
Preferably drink this beautiful rich white wine with richer dishes. Think, for example, of lobster, grilled fish, bouillabaisse or a creamy ragout. When you drink the wine young, we advise you to decant it. The wine also easily lasts several years in the cellar.
