Tasting note Savennières Clos Brochard

A full-bodied, complex dry white wine with a refined aroma of ripe yellow fruit, peach, and hints of almond and caramel. The palate is powerful, persistent, and finishes with a balanced, fresh finish.

Description

Sylvie Plessis and her husband Christian make beautiful Chenin wines in the small Savennières appellation. The couple owns 7 hectares of south-facing slope vineyards planted in a subsoil of various types of slate. The Chenin grape is harvested late and by hand here, starting in October, and is done in multiple passes to ensure only the ripest grapes are picked. Sylvie's careful vinification produces precise and pure wines with fantastic terroir and grape expression. Chenin of this quality is among the great white wines of France and can be aged for a long time, if desired, to develop great flavor complexity. The Clos Brochard comes from a unique terraced vineyard with a low yield. This full-bodied, exceptionally fine wine, thanks to the harvest of very ripe grapes, can be enjoyed young, for example, with grilled salmon or veal.
