Charming Chenin from Swartland
Ripe, juicy fruit and a touch of toast
Delicious drinks wine that leaves you wanting more |
Description
Winemaker couple Van Niekerk is not only pushing boundaries in a figurative sense. These pioneers from Piekenierskloof make great wines from grapes from Piekenierskloof and neighboring Swartland. Take this particularly charming Chenin Blanc, for example.
While in the past Swartland was mainly known for its wheat production, today it is a booming wine region. The winemakers are adventurous and innovative, the wines rich and intensely fruity. The warm and dry climate offers a double advantage: it produces ripe, very tasty grapes, which are also in perfectly healthy condition due to little risk of rot and mold.
The grapes from Piekenierskloof are a nice addition: thanks to the slightly cooler location of the vineyards, the grapes here retain more freshness and aroma. After manual harvesting, the grapes are crushed. Jaco and Cerina only use 'free run juice' (or the juice that is released without having to squeeze). Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, after which the wine matures for another five months on the fine yeasts.
This creates a wonderfully mild, juicy South African Chenin with notes of tropical fruit and some spiciness. Easy to drink, versatile and yet surprising every time: in our opinion this is the ideal drinks and house wine!
Drink with
Ideal to drink as an aperitif, or to serve with light dishes and salads with fish or chicken.
Tasting note
Light yellow colored wine with refined aromas of peach, mandarin and toast in the scent. Beautifully fruity in taste with a wonderful juiciness and balanced freshness. The finish is dry and medium long with fine grapefruit bitters.
