Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero
The northern Spanish wine regions of Ribera del Duero and Rioja are the best known names for quality Spanish red wines. Both areas are clearly different from each other. In the cooler and higher Ribera del Duero, the tempranillo grapes are harvested later, often only from mid-October. As a result, the wines are usually firmer and more robust in taste.
Bodegas Platea
Manuel Martín of Bodegas Platea makes a delicious red Ribera from grapes from vineyards in Valbuena and Pedrosa de Duero, in the western part of the region. After fermentation, the wine matures for about twelve months in 60% French and 40% American oak.
Although not a well-known producer, Bodegas Platea is very popular with our catering customers. The wines have an accessible, luxurious and ripe taste and can therefore be perfectly served at the table without further maturation. The Crianza is excellent with roast meats, or with baguettes and dried sausage.
Concentrated wine to combine with (roasted) dishes, such as spiced lamb tenderloin and tournedos, hearty stews with beans or spicy cheeses (cheddar).
Powerful, oak-aged red wine with a seductive scent of blueberry, black cherry, coconut and dill. The taste is full and intense with fine tannins, nice freshness and nuances of cedar and laurel in the medium-long finish.
