White wine from the Languedoc Roussillon
The white Château Puech Haut is a wonderful example of excellent, classic southern French white wine and is the answer to the dominance of sauvignon and chardonnay. For more and more French winemakers and sommeliers, the Languedoc excels due to its traditional grapes, for example, in this case, roussanne, marsanne and white carignan. Like at Puech Haut where a full, rich white wine is made from hand-picked grapes from a vineyard with a low yield.
Fermentation is followed by an 8-month aging in tanks with regular bâtonnage during the first months. Only 20% of the wine is aged in small 2nd and 3rd year oak barrels. This beautiful, original white wine combines excellently with fish dishes, risotto, but is also impressive outside the meal. Château Puech Haut is Gérard Bru's success story. He expanded the parental domain, about 15 kilometers northeast of Montpellier, into one of the leading Languedoc producers.
Decanter magazine mentions Puech Haut in the same breath as the best producers in the south of France, such as Mas de Daumas Gassac, Grange des Pères and Peyre Rose. Advisory winemaker is Philippe Cambie, known for his work for the best companies in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
