Description
The carménère grape is considered the red specialty of Chile. If in good hands and with a limitation of yield in the vineyard, we agree. A good example is this one from Selnia, made under the responsibility of the Frenchman Sébastien Cabaret.
He was born in Reims and moved to Chile with European know-how, where he makes wine under almost paradisiacal conditions. Plenty of sun, ample availability of Andean meltwater in the vineyard and proximity to the cool ocean. He plays with these elements to create an excellent, drinkable Carménère from Central Valley vineyards.
The grapes are picked at night and early in the morning so that they arrive cool in the cellar. The vinification is aimed at creating a wine with fruit-rich aromas, a beautiful, smooth taste and a modest alcohol content. For extra seductive aroma and taste, the wine remains in contact with oak for a short time. In short, a very successful Chilean red wine from an extremely skilled winemaker.
Drink with
Sultry, smooth red wine to drink alone and serve with spicy (meat) dishes, such as lamb curry, stir-fried veal or chicken with noodles, or hard cheeses.
Tasting note
Youthful, ruby red color and a seductive scent of red cherry, blueberry, plum and mint. Full taste with jammy red fruit and ripe, soft tannins. The finish is clean with notes of toast and caramel.
