Nerello cappuccio meets Nerello mascalese
Bright red in color and spicy, fresh and fruity in scent, with nuances of red berries and herbs. The taste is smooth and elegant and develops aromatically, with fresh tannin in the aftertaste.
DOC Rosso from Etna
The Burgundy of the Mediterranean, as owner Marco de Grazia describes his refined, mineral Sicilian wines, from slope vineyards on the northern flank of the Etna volcano. The altitude provides cooling and therefore refinement in the wines. The organic planting and the ambition to produce top quality force Marco to low yields so that the native grapes have a beautiful expression.
The Calderara Sottana vineyard is planted with nerello mascalese and nerello cappuccio and has low production due to the age of the vines. The large amount of basalt pebbles in the soil is special. They retain heat well at night, so the grapes contain less acid and the wine therefore has a round and accessible taste.
After fermentation, the wine matures for almost 18 months in oak barrels. Drink this beautiful wine with a nice piece of red meat, preferably after several years of bottle aging. Sublime!
