Bodegas Trenza Vino de España La Orphica Selección Aurora 2022

The Tofterup brothers know about wine. David is a winemaker, Jonas is the first Danish Master of Wine. Together they run Bodegas Trenza and make particularly tempting wines in the southern Spanish wine region of Yecla, such as this surprising white Orphica Aurora.

Surprising, because the hot climate in Yecla is especially suitable for red wines from sturdy grapes such as monastrell. However, the Tofterup brothers have planted their macabeo, sauvignon, verdejo and moscatel in vineyards at an altitude of 900 meters. There, the conditions are cooler, so that the grapes remain nice and fresh and aromatic.

To keep that lively character in the wine, the brothers harvest the grapes at dawn (hence Orphica Aurora), when the outside temperature and the grapes are still cool. After picking, they are immediately taken to the cellar and fermented at a cool temperature in stainless steel tanks. Wood aging is not involved.

This is how the brothers succeed in making a particularly expressive, energetic and juicy white wine in the hot Spanish south. With its fragrant, fruity and slightly floral notes and mild, ripe taste, the Orphica is delicious as a drink wine as well as at the table. For example, try it with olives, garlic shrimps, smoked almonds or Spanish ham. Or serve it with grilled octopus, fish or asparagus. Enjoyment guaranteed!
